Stuffed Pastas

29 Dec

Doesn’t this stuffed pasta look so good? Get the full recipe/tutorial here.

New Year’s Eve Hair

29 Dec

This 30-second updo would be so cute for a New Year’s Eve party, plus it looks genuinely easy to pull off.

Have a great weekend and we’ll see you on Tuesday! :)

Graffiti Nouveau

28 Dec

It seems that graffiti has really branched out since my youth. Take “yarnbombing” for instance. It’s a new graffiti trend that swaps out spray paint for a knitting needle and yarn. I have to say, the results are pretty amazing.

I wonder how long it takes to complete one of these projects. It seems as though yarnbombs must be created by magical elves rather than real people. Either way, I’m in love.

Ninth Birthday

27 Dec

Wow, OK. James has to be the nicest, coolest mother on earth, because the way she celebrated her daughter Plum’s 9th birthday is possibly the sweetest celebration I’ve ever seen or heard of. She snuck into her daughter’s room the night before her birthday and filled the floor with presents, served her breakfast in bed (blueberry pancakes) the following morning, and prepared an amazing sleepover for her and her friends, complete with a teepee and comfy quilts in the living room. To top off the evening? A menu of carrot soup, a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, and homemade red velvet cake.

Saying Thank You

27 Dec

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas weekend! I successfully ate my heart out and watched Mission: Impossible IV, so yup, I accomplished what I hoped to these past few days.

Now that it’s all over, wouldn’t this card be the cutest way to say thank you to friends and family for their gifts, company, and cheer?

A Very Sweet Homecoming

22 Dec

Did you guys know that it’s a tradition during Navy homecomings to pick one lucky sailor to be the first off the ship for a long-awaited kiss with a loved one? (I had no idea!) Well, yesterday, for the first time, the reunited couple was gay. Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta kissed her girlfriend of two years, Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell, while the crowds cheered. How sweet is that?

Have a great Christmas weekend, everyone! We’ll see you guys back here on Tuesday. :)

Holiday Baking Guide

22 Dec

From chocolate-dipped shortbread and pecan pie bars, to toffee blondies and grilled pumpkin pie, Kelly has a holiday baking guide that looks too scrumptious not to get started on right now.

Are you guys making or craving anything sweet for this weekend?

Christmastime is Here?

Having spent most of my formative childhood in Cincinnati, Ohio, I often miss the dramatic change in the seasons from fall to winter. There was something magical about waking up to a snowy day and getting bundled up in front of the fire, especially on Christmas morning. These days, I barely even realize it’s Christmastime until the malls start overflowing with people and traffic becomes a nightmare.

This year to get into the Christmas spirit, I think I’ll just spend some time gazing at these dreamy photographs from Norwegian artist Rune Guneriussen. Guneriussen builds and photographs these stunning scenes all over Norway – and then unfortunately deconstructs them. I just love the magical winter-like vibe they produce. I could stare at them for hours.

See more of Guneriussen’s work, here.

BabyCakes Baking Kit

20 Dec

Those who know me well know how much I truly, deeply, and obsessively love BabyCakes, the vegan bakery I may or may not have moved to Downtown LA for. (A proper shout-out to my friend Grace, who gifted me with one of my favorite birthday presents this year: BabyCakes gift certificates!)  The fresh-baked goods are so delicious–especially the chocolate chip cookie sandwiches that are filled with the most divine icing–and most of them also free of refined sugar, soy, wheat, and gluten. In a world of crazy desserts everywhere, I love this bakery for keeping things simple, healthy, and accessible for those with restrictive diets.

If you don’t live near one of their bakeries, don’t fret: they’re now selling a selection of baking mixes, as well as a complete baking kit, which means you can have their treats in your own home!

p.s. if their mixes are out of your budget and/or you want to make their desserts from scratch, you can order their BabyCakes cookbooks.

Festive From Head to Toe

20 Dec

Last week, I shared 5 party dresses with you guys, but if you’d rather make your accessories the main attraction this holiday season, these precious pieces from ban.do would be the perfect complement to any little black dress–in fact, the simpler the outfit, the better. Which means you can wear something you already own, save some money, and still look adorable.

From top to bottom: Gift Bow, $35; Big Black Bow Headband, $45; Chiffon Shoe Clips, $25; Heart Shoe Clips, $25.
